- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪Fusion w/ Dr. Childs in 12/16. Booted out of hospital day after surgery despite pain/weakness on left side. After 7 months of worse pain, I finally insisted on follow up MRI and CT scans. BOTH tests stated "loosening hardware." Response "....I don't put much faith in these tests" and suggested a second opinion! Hallelujah! Made an appointment to see another practice same day. Surgeon read reports/viewed discs and did revision (3 level fusion) 2 weeks later with a Neurosurgeon assisting to repair nerve damage. Two weeks post-op and I am nearly pain free and recovering well! Surgeon said metal was just floating...and screws had not purchased into bone at all (as evidenced in the follow up tests) and remarked how incredible the pain must have been. I believe Dr. Childs is a good/competent surgeon, but he totally missed the marker on this one. The P/A's are very sympathetic and engaging. Be prepared for MULTIPLE visits and MULTIPLE injections before he will advance to surgical solutions. I spent over $200 a month in deductibles and chasing my tail while he insisted I was impatient in recovery. No, I was in worse shape, but thanks for the sympathy.September 20, 2017by Bill Powers
- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪Dr Childs performed a fusion surgery on my spine using a "less invasive" method that he was appearantly trying to patent himself. The fusion was unsuccessful and left me in worse pain and reduced mobility. I foolishly neglected to research him before i let him operate on me and found out that he had just settled a malpractice suit for doing the same surgery on someone the previous year. I had to go to John Hopkins to have them open me up again and fix what he did. What he did caused me to lose another year of my life dealing with more pain, medical bills, doctors, insurance companies, loss of income, etc, etc. Thanks for using me as a guinea pig Dr. Childs!
